Filter types overview
No “best filter.” Start from the job (taste, scale, well microbes…), then match a type. Education only — we sell nothing.
Name the job

At a glance
| Type | Usually for | Usually not for |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon | Taste, odour, chlorine character | Hardness, microbes, most salts |
| Reverse osmosis | Broader cut of dissolved stuff at one drinking tap | Whole house; needs upkeep and sends water to drain |
| Softener | Hard water / scale / soap | Chlorine taste, disinfection, most chemicals |
| UV | Microbes — mostly private wells | Chemicals, taste, hardness |
| Whole-house | Treating water where it enters the building | A magic single box — it is a stack of stages |
Two things that matter more than the brand
- The claim. If you buy, check what the unit is actually certified to reduce — claim by claim.
- Maintenance. A neglected filter can be worse than none. If you will not change cartridges, skip the purchase.
