UV treatment
Ultraviolet light as disinfection. On city water this job is already done; UV’s real home is the private well.
Microbes
mostly private wells
UV lamp
disinfection only
Needs clear water
no chemicals removed
What it does
Water passes a UV lamp. The light inactivates microbes. Nothing is added and nothing is filtered out — disinfection, not a chemical filter.
What it does not do
- Chemicals, taste, odour, hardness
- Cloudy water — particles block the light, so UV needs clear water
Upkeep
Lamps are replaced on schedule even if they still glow; sleeves need cleaning.
If you want more detail
People researching units often look at NSF/ANSI 55 and the class rating. On a well, testing comes before any treatment decision — see private wells. Education only; no products recommended.
